In the process of use, the surface of the material is reacted and sintered to form a dense corundum spinel layer, which gives the material high resistance to erosion and excellent resistance to molten steel penetration. The back of the dense layer is an unreacted loose layer, which can effectively absorb the stress of thermal shock production and give the material high resistance to thermal spalling.
